Happy New Year!

It was a busy end to 2012 at the studio that included sessions with Island Def Jam artist Jenna Andrews who came to the studio to work on tracks for her Kiss and Run EP that is available now. Longtime client, Ropeadope artist DJ Logic returned to begin work on a new soundtrack. We also welcomed BMG group Hank & Cupcakes who spent several days at the studio to record and mix some tracks for their upcoming EP. The studio hosted several events including our annual CMJ party as well as an ASCAP mixer for New York songwriters.

We geared up for the New Year by completely overhauling our DAW and upgrading to Pro Tools 10HD as well as adding a slew of new plugins. We also installed a brand new 6-Core Apple Mac Pro.

In January we put our new rig to work and opened our doors to Emily Kinney, one of the stars of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Emily came in to work on several songs for her forthcoming EP.

We would like to thank everyone that made 2012 a great year and we look forward to working with you in 2013.

It is hard to believe that we are over halfway through 2012, so we would like to catch our breath and let you know what we have been up to at the studio.

The studio opened its doors to a long time favorite of ours producer, label executive, and artist 9th Wonder. 9th Wonder locked out the studio for a week to work with the entire Jamla Records crew, including artists Rapsody, Actual Proof, and Big Remo. The studio was bumping all day and all night with a bunch of famous faces coming through like NFL superstar Torry Holt and producer/engineer Terrace Martin. It was a great to have so many talented and nice people in the studio and we hope to have them back very soon.

As spring rolled on our friends in the Hunters dropped by the studio fresh off their tour with The Kills and Jeff The Brotherhood. The Brooklyn-based band brought their brand of heavy, catchy, and noisy rock into the studio to record new tracks for their upcoming EP. The band came in with their producer, the legendary guitar player James Iha, who was on hand to direct them through a long day of tracking. Be sure to catch Hunters on their summer tour with A Place To Bury Strangers.

The studio shifted gears this summer as we got ready for the return of the avant-garde jazz/rock band Big Five Chord. The band, led by guitarist Jon Lundbom, came in to record and mix their new album “No New Tunes” that is being released on Hot Cup Records. This is the third album the band has completed at Fireplace Studios and it is always a pleasure to be surrounded by such great musicians.

Some other notable mentions include producer Wizz Dumb who cut his teeth under the tutelage of renowned artist/producer Timbaland. Wizz locked out the studio for several days to work on a slew of new tracks. We also welcomed back our friends from Solid Music in Sweden, including producer Jason Gil and artists J-Son and Tima who spent a week in the studio writing tracks for Tima’s upcoming album. The studio gained a new client in supermodel and singer Jessica White who came to the studio for several sessions with prominent songwriter Andrea Martin. We also continued to work with Sara Quin of Tegan & Sara who used the studio as a home away from home to write tracks for the group’s soon-to-be-released album.

2012 continues to be a banner year here at the studio and we would like to thank everyone who has played a part.

2012 is off to a roaring start at the studio and we would like to take a minute to let you all know what has been going on.

After a raucous New Year’s Eve celebration we welcomed back one of our best international clients — producer and songwriter Arnthor Birgisson (Britney Spears, Carlos Santana, Jennifer Lopez, Leona Lewis). Arnthor spent two weeks in the studio working with some of the industry’s best top-line writers and will return for another two weeks in February.

January rolled on and we opened the studio to Canadian rock band The Zolas who are signed to Light Organ Records. The guys came down to New York to mix their new album with producer Chuck Brody. The forthcoming yet-to-be-named album is set to be released late this year …be sure to keep an eye out for it.

This past month the studio also became home to our friend Sara Quin from the renowned duo Tegan & Sara. Sara was in the studio for extended sessions during January and February to work on a host of songs for the bands new album. The group is set to start recording later this month and we eagerly await their next release.

Some other notable mentions from early 2012 include sessions with New York actor and musician Michael Grubbs who is the lead singer of the pop/rock band Wakey!Wakey! We also continued our work with Pixar Animation Studios and the casting for their new feature film due out in 2013. Last but not least we were treated to an unexpected surprise when DMC (Run DMC) dropped by the studio to shoot several videos and collaborate on a new mix tape.

We at the studio would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this fantastic start to 2012. Stay tuned to see what we have in store for the rest of the year.

It is the time of year to give thanks and we at the studio would like to take a minute and thank some of the clients that made this past month one of the busiest in our 6 year history.

November kicked off with our good friend Moxie Block returning to the studio to work on her upcoming full-length album.  It was a busy week of recording, full of vocals, guitars and an awesome horn section.

The next week brought us Brooklyn’s own Motive who came into the studio to work with producer Chuck Brody.  The band spent a solid week recording and came out with two amazing new songs; look out for their upcoming release.

We then switched gears and made room for Pixar Animation to use the studio for casting their next feature film.  It was an exciting and eventful three days with the Pixar bunch and we hope to see them again very soon.

We rounded out the month with several writing, recording, and mixing sessions including work by the new production team Tenderflex, made up of our long-time friend and producer David Maurice and the extraordinary DJ Logic.  The guys came in to work on several new remixes that will be hitting the airwaves shortly.

So a big thank you to all of our clients for helping us break in the new studio and making this a great month full of fantastic music and people!

Welcome to the new Fireplace Studios!  Since relocating from our 25th Street studio, which we called home for over 5 years, there have been some exciting developments.  After an exhaustive search of the city, we found the perfect new place to set up shop.  Perched atop Madison Avenue in a 14th floor penthouse was the raw space that would become the future site of Fireplace Studios.

We teamed up with veteran studio builder Chris Harmaty, legendary technician and acoustician John Klett, and acoustic contractors Symmetry Sound Solutions to design and build our new space, which features a main recording studio with control room, live room and vocal booth, as well as three satellite production studios.  After several months of construction and one intense week of moving, we opened the doors to the new Fireplace Studios in the spring of 2011.

We invite you to click around and take a look at what we have to offer.  Please call or email us for information on rates and availability.
