After a raucous New Year’s Eve celebration we welcomed back one of our best international clients — producer and songwriter Arnthor Birgisson (Britney Spears, Carlos Santana, Jennifer Lopez, Leona Lewis). Arnthor spent two weeks in the studio working with some of the industry’s best top-line writers and will return for another two weeks in February.

January rolled on and we opened the studio to Canadian rock band The Zolas who are signed to Light Organ Records. The guys came down to New York to mix their new album with producer Chuck Brody. The forthcoming yet-to-be-named album is set to be released late this year …be sure to keep an eye out for it.

This past month the studio also became home to our friend Sara Quin from the renowned duo Tegan & Sara. Sara was in the studio for extended sessions during January and February to work on a host of songs for the bands new album. The group is set to start recording later this month and we eagerly await their next release.

Some other notable mentions from early 2012 include sessions with New York actor and musician Michael Grubbs who is the lead singer of the pop/rock band Wakey!Wakey! We also continued our work with Pixar Animation Studios and the casting for their new feature film due out in 2013. Last but not least we were treated to an unexpected surprise when DMC (Run DMC) dropped by the studio to shoot several videos and collaborate on a new mix tape.

November kicked off with our good friend Moxie Block returning to the studio to work on her upcoming full-length album.  It was a busy week of recording, full of vocals, guitars and an awesome horn section.

The next week brought us Brooklyn’s own Motive who came into the studio to work with producer Chuck Brody.  The band spent a solid week recording and came out with two amazing new songs; look out for their upcoming release.

We then switched gears and made room for Pixar Animation to use the studio for casting their next feature film.  It was an exciting and eventful three days with the Pixar bunch and we hope to see them again very soon.

We rounded out the month with several writing, recording, and mixing sessions including work by the new production team Tenderflex, made up of our long-time friend and producer David Maurice and the extraordinary DJ Logic.  The guys came in to work on several new remixes that will be hitting the airwaves shortly.

So a big thank you to all of our clients for helping us break in the new studio and making this a great month full of fantastic music and people!

We teamed up with veteran studio builder Chris Harmaty, legendary technician and acoustician John Klett, and acoustic contractors Symmetry Sound Solutions to design and build our new space, which features a main recording studio with control room, live room and vocal booth, as well as three satellite production studios.  After several months of construction and one intense week of moving, we opened the doors to the new Fireplace Studios in the spring of 2011.
